The Warsaw MCR OPEN 2026 tournament, organized by the Calisia Mahjong Club, took place in Warsaw on March 14–15, 2026. The event was a MERS 3+ tournament and attracted players from all over Europe, who competed according to the Mahjong Competition Rules (MCR).

Two Days of Intense Play

The tournament was held at the welcoming Hotel Lord**** in Warsaw. Seven sessions, each lasting two hours, were held over two days, resulting in a significant amount of excitement and challenging play.

Fifty-six players from 11 countries participated, giving the tournament a distinctly international character and a great atmosphere at the tables.

Judge Michał Łepik oversaw the tournament, and EMA representative Vasile Gherman observed the event.

High Level and High Excitement

From the very first sessions, it was clear that the level was truly high. There was no shortage of difficult decisions, close finishes, and moments where everything could have turned around with a single hand.

As is often the case in mahjong, it’s not just knowledge of the rules and strategy that counts, but also a bit of luck, which can tip the scales of victory at the most unexpected moment.

The battle for the top spots lasted practically until the last session, and the final standings remained open for a long time.

Tournament Podium

Oliver Hölscher handled the entire tournament best, winning with consistent and effective play.

Yeyin Lu took second place, maintaining a very solid performance throughout all sessions.

Karro Bengtsson finished third, also remaining among the top players throughout the tournament.

The winners received trophies, and the results will, of course, be included in the EMA rankings.

Thanks!

Thank you all for your attendance, the great atmosphere, and fair play at the tables—it’s thanks to you that this tournament had such a great atmosphere.

Thanks to Michał Łepik for his efficient refereeing and to Vasile Gherman for his support as an EMA observer.

We also extend a huge thank you to the Lord Hotel**** in Warsaw for their hospitality and excellent playing conditions.

See you at the next tournaments!
